Extracurricular/Athletic Student Code of Conduct

Extracurricular/Athletic Code of Conduct

Welcome to Urbana Middle School Extracurricular Programs and Athletics!

We are excited to have you join our program that carries such a great tradition of excellence. Athletic and extracurricular success is the direct result of effort, teamwork, commitment, and sportsmanship. These traits have long been the building blocks of Urbana’s own special brand of program success.

Your participation as a student in any of our school-sponsored programs is a privilege. Any time you wear an Urbana uniform, you are representing yourself, your family, your school, and all those that have worn orange and black before you. Your behavior should be respectful and appropriate in all areas. Other students, staff, parents, and the community will closely observe your conduct.

The rules outlined in this handbook are not designed solely to describe consequences; rather it is a guide to successful participation in UMS extracurriculars and athletics. As students participating in our programs, you will be expected to understand and follow these rules, as well as the team’s rules.

Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) is our school’s governing entity who provides guidance and policy to schools related to school-sponsored programs and athletics. IESA identifies sportsmanship as a core value and they believe:

  • Students will develop leadership characteristics through competition that carry into the classroom and the future
  • Students serve as positive role models within the school community
  • Pride builds respect, which helps create strong and lasting friendships through competition
  • Participation in school sponsored programming is a privilege; with that privilege comes great responsibility
  • Strong commitment is an important ingredient to the success of our Urbana programs
  • Urbana programming should be fun and also an opportunity for character building

Athletes and their families should review the full Extracurricular/Athletic Student Code of Conduct below. If you need a plain text/accessible version, please follow this link.
